Panic on the streets of London
I couldn’t say with accuracy why this is happening, none of us can really.
But what strikes me in all of this is that rioting and looting is not the behaviour of people with something to lose. If you have a job that you want to keep; a house you’re saving up for or A Levels that will take you somewhere, what you don’t do is smash up shop windows and grab whatever you can.
So, it seems to me that the next logical question is: why do these young people have nothing to lose?
I’m not going to offer an answer, but perhaps if we as a nation put a little thought into it, things might look a lot different.
